More Brits will realise the benefits of eco-friendly homes in the future as the issue of sustainability rises in the public's consciousness.
According to Gordon Miller, co-founder and sustainability & communications director at Sustain Worldwide, an advocate of sustainable construction, homeowners are increasingly realising how energy efficiency impacts on their property's energy bills, although there are more benefits to come.
"The feed-in tariff has had a significant impact in the increased awareness," Mr Miller explained.
He added: "The significance of true bottom line - environmental, social and economic – sustainability has yet to register with the wider public, but it will in time as energy security and climate change become ever bigger factors."
Self-described eco-warrior Philippa Forrester recently offered her top tips on how to produce more eco-friendly homes, explaining the steps taken do not always have to be drastic.
She recommended a woodburner as one way in which energy can be saved, while larger changes include installing double glazing or fitting insulation.
