Commuter Towns Ripe For Property Investment

St Albans and Winchester offer great opportunities for property investment as commuter towns with good links to major cities, even for first-time buyers.

Helen Adams, managing director of FirstRungNow.com, said towns with a thriving social scene and good schools will see prices rise, but those which also have good transport links tick all the boxes.

This pattern is particularly true for towns which are linked with three of the UK's largest cities – London, Birmingham and Manchester.

"For example, like St Albans and Winchester - they have good employment, goodschools, very good quick links to London and they have high [property] prices," she explained.

The average property price, across all types of home, in Winchester for July to September this year sat at £369,086, while St Albans saw an average price of£435,919.

For the UK as a whole, the average price stands at £241,461, according to figures from the Land Registry of England compiled by the BBC.
