Green Deal Will Create More Eco Friendly Homes
The new Energy Act became law last week, setting out the legal framework for the government's flagship programme, which is due to launch next autumn. Homeowners will then reap the benefits from greener homes through cheaper energy bills.
The Green Deal has the potential to completely transform the UK's housing stock by creating more eco-friendly homes.
For homeowners, the key elements of the act will remove the upfront cost of implementing energy efficiency measures - like loft, cavity and external wall insulation, draught proofing and energy efficiency glazing and boilers - making expensive home improvement and retrofitting affordable via low interest loans.
In the long term, other benefits will come from a higher score on the Energy Performance Certificate, a document that is mandatory when it comes to selling a property.
