High Tenant Demand Expected To Continue In 2012

Tenant demand is expected to remain high in 2012 following steady increases over the past 12 months, a Paragon poll shows.

Some 56 per cent of landlords questioned by the lender said they expected a rise in demand, up from 45 per cent who expected growth at the end of 2010.

The overwhelming majority believe that rents will either remain stable or rise over the next 12 months, with just two per cent predicting a fall.

Nigel Terrington, chief executive of Paragon Group, said this year will not be without its challenges, including the issues with the eurozone, but said those in the buy to let sector should "look to 2012 with optimism".

"I believe that the foundations that we laid as a sector in 2011 will allow lenders and landlords to continue to do business, in particular if we see a greater level of product innovation," he added.

Figures from Paragon reported by Love Money recently also suggested the West Midlands will offer the best rental yields in 2012.

Yorkshire and the Humber, the north-east, south-west, Wales and the east of England will all also offer yields of greater than six per cent.
