Clarifications regarding energy performance rules would be welcomed if buy-to-let investors are to play their part in improving the UK's supply of eco-friendly homes, the Residential Landlords Association (RLA) has said.
Richard Jones, policy director at the RLA, said the organisation has been pressing the government to release information concerning regulations about properties in the bottom two categories, G and F, "sooner rather than later" so landlords will have more time to act.
Many of these properties can be brought in line with regulations with loft insulation or a boiler upgrade, he added.
"The government wants to see voluntary compliance, but the one thing that puts landlords off voluntary compliance and getting on with it is the uncertainty about the standards that they will need to meet," he added.
Recently, the National Landlords Association said two-thirds of private landlords will consider taking advantage of the government's Green Deal scheme to improve the energy efficiency of their properties.
