Plymouth Tipped As 2010 Hotspot

PLYMOUTH TIPPED AS 2010 HOTSPOT

Plymouth has been tipped as one of two UK seaside resorts to become a sought-after hotspot for 2010, benefiting from major regeneration investment in the famous seafront, says email4property.co.uk, the UK’s largest online network of estate agents.

Plymouth has been awarded a “Sea Change” development grant of £100,000, a government backed initiative led by CABE (the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment). This grant has been awarded to the town to help reposition the Plymouth Arts Centre to the Hoe on the seafront. This would bring a highly prominent and historic site back into use. It is planned that there will be two cinemas, education spaces and a café built in this space.

The Plymouth housing market has performed strongly compared to other key locations in the South West, with average house prices falling just 7% to £254,183 according to email4property.co.uk's data. This regeneration project will help reinforce Plymouth's position as a prominent economic and residential centre, attracting new residents to the area.

Steve Lees, Head of Marketing for email4property.co.uk, comments: “As well as enhancing the quality of life for existing inhabitants, this cash injection into Plymouth will boost visitor numbers and stimulate the local economy, helping attract new residents and investors to the area. This is likely to help support house price growth over the longer term."

Mark Christie, Managing Director of local estate agency Property Links, comments: “Regeneration is having a hugely positive impact on the housing market, the city and the local community. Plymouth is already the South West's regional centre for culture and educational, and building further on its historical and maritime connections will mean it is well placed to become one the UK's most prosperous and growing cities."

The second seaside town tipped as a 2010 hotspot is Ramsgate in Kent.
