Making a property investment in the rental sector allows people to "control their financial destiny", according to the Residential Landlords Association (RLA), although investors should as ever be aware of the risks.
Alan Ward, chairman of the RLA, said there will always be landlords moving in and out of the private rented sector because it traditionally offers a solid way to invest money.
"It depends where you are buying: London is still a strong market in terms of capital growth, but the latest RLA research shows most landlords are looking at investment over 15 years," he said.
Townends estate agents reported this week that void periods for the majority of properties in Surrey, Hampshire and London, are virtually non-existent.
The company urged people not to be put off from making a property investment by the latest reports on void periods, which are based on national statistics.
Caroline Kavanagh, group lettings director for Townends, reminded potential landlords that a London market will "paint a very different picture" to one in other parts of the UK. Start searching for your new home on email4property today.
