Installing solar panels on a property is increasingly being viewed as the "thing to be doing", according to research, potentially increasing the supply of eco-friendly homes for property investors.
Behavioural change and education is one of the most important factors in ensuring that people continue to improve their homes.
"Since the feed-in tariff came in there have been about 30,000 domestic installations of PV [photovoltaics] and it really is scaling up," explained David Hunt, sales and marketing director of Eco Environments.
"People are starting to become aware of the incentives." A study in the journal Solar Energy recently revealed that solar panels installed on a roof do not just provide clean power but also help to cool the building, reducing the need for electricity-heavy air conditioning systems.
It is believed to be the first peer-reviewed measurement of the cooling benefits provided by solar PV panels.
