Rising tuition fees will see a growing number of students looking for property to rent rather than living in halls, according to a service that advertises house shares.
Jonathan Moore, director of Easyroommate.co.uk, said the organisation's latest research shows that the highest demand for flat shares is in Brighton, Cambridge and Oxford, with the latter two also having some of the country's highest rents.
"At present, students are paying an average of £325 per month for a room across the UK, and on average there are four students per home," he said.
Living in student digs is nearly a quarter cheaper than living in university halls on average, he went on to say, meaning many more cost-conscious students will be looking to move into house shares for the entire duration of their course as tuition fees go up.
Other cities which are experiencing high levels of students seeking property to rent include London, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Manchester, Bristol and Belfast.
