Wide Appeal Keeps Chichester Housing Market Robust

Its wide ranging appeal and general lack of supply has kept the Chichester property market strong, according to research by email4property.co.uk, the largest online network of local estate agents.

Chichester’s prevalent history and popularity as a traditional English market town has continued to attract visitors and residents alike, and has helped it buck the current trend of falling property prices. This, along with its proximity to the south coast has kept housing demand strong here and house prices in the city are currently up 4.2% on last year.

Market towns were highlighted as among the most robust locations for property in a recent house price review*, with values far out-stripping the county average in most cases, and Chichester’s average property price ranked among the highest in the country.

With an increasing number of Brits opting to holiday closer to home this summer, the revival of the UK holiday home market has been well documented. Chichester, with popular attractions such as its famed cathedral and historic city wall, plus its position on the edge of the South Downs and its close links to popular beaches such as the Witterings, offers the ideal location for a broad range of recreational visitors, as well as permanent residents.

David Bexon, Managing Director of email4property, comments: “Chichester is a city steeped in history and character, with its market tradition and picturesque setting, helping to keep demand for homes strong. Chichester’s location makes it ideal for holiday makers and leisure seekers during the summer season, and its year-round arts and music scene continues to draw visitors throughout the year. A large number of its residents have also been attracted by its excellent location and cultural scene, with many choosing to buy a family home in area.”

The university and well-renowned art college located in Chichester add to its position as one of the foremost cities in Sussex, and offer further appeal for home buyers looking to buy in an area that can boast strong capital price growth and high buy-to-let rental returns.

Local Agent, Pamela Phelan of Henry Adams, comments: “The property market in Chichester has always been strong and is proving resilient in the current climate. With its excellent location and wide appeal, the city is continuing to attract buyers, with the top end of the market remaining particularly robust. If sellers are realistic in their expectations and their property is well priced, they are still able to secure a sale."
